First Conjoined Twins separated in Ghana; Check out their current Beautiful Pictures
On Monday, 5th July 2021 news about new conjoined twins broke in Ghana. It became sad news because these children needed GHS3 million to undergo surgery for separation. Fortunately for them, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through the Minister for Health, Hon Kwaku Agyeman Manu came to the assistance of these Siamese twins and paid all the cost. Their mother became extremely excited when Nana Aba Anamoah announced this good news to her.
The new Siamese twins were joined by the head but the first Siamese were joined by the belly. The first conjoined twins were born in Somanya, Eastern Region in 1999. They were given the names Lydia Awui and Linda Awui. Reports indicate that the first President of the Fourth Republic, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings provided the necessary funding for the procedure.
The twin sisters were separated at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital in 1999, three months after their birth. The picture below shows when they have not been separated.
When the twins came of age, they took their time to pay a visit to His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings for financing their separation when they were kids. And it is quite a coincidence that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also financed these new Siamese twins. These two Presidents are making history when it comes to assisting Siamese twins in Ghana.
The picture below shows Lydia Awui and Linda Awui with their family.
The photo below is the current state of the twins now (September 2021).
Thanks to late former President Jerry John Rawlings for financing the separation of these beautiful twins.
